Hired Law firm 2020-2021My experience with The Law Firm of Lisa Standish was wonderful. I felt that my concerns were heard, the approach was collaborative, but she also didn't let me get bullied by the other side. She is firm but caring. Most effective. My divorce was quick and surprizingly low stress. She is to the point and doesn't drag out topics just for the sake of billing hours. I would absolutely recommend Attorney Lisa Standish to others that are looking for a hands-on, knowledgeable person to navigate the tricky world of divorce.

Hired Law firm 2018Excellent job. Attorney Standish was the third lawyer I hired in my divorce case. The other attorneys were sending huge bills for unnecessary correspondence, and motions. They let the other side run wild and didn’t put a stop to it. Just ran those ridicules bills up. Met with Attorney Standish and described my case and She saw what was going on. We had a discussion on where this would go. I hired Her and long story short, Attorney Standish in short order got it done. Much to my satisfaction, and at a reasonable cost. When you hire Her she is definitely an advocate for you.

Hired Law firm 2017-2020Lisa has represented me on a divorce and also advised me with custody matters. I highly recommend her services- if you have the opportunity to have her as your lawyer, don't hesitate to take it! She is very knowledgeable and a strong advocate for her clients, as well as being compassionate regarding the human elements her clients face during difficult circumstances. Lisa doesn't drag things out and is respectful of my finances, which is important to me. She does exactly what I need her to do and not anything more- I so appreciate her integrity in not trying to run up a big bill. Lisa is also responsive in a timely manner- if you have worked with other lawyers, you know that is not always the case! She really is a rare gem in this field. I have also worked briefly with Marissa and have found her to be exceptional and to emulate the same great ethics. Shout out to Kara, too- always pleasant to deal with :) An amazing team all around!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
