Tom Stucky was not pleasant to work with. He was the mediator for my divorce. He relayed information so quickly that I had to ask him to slow down and repeat himself at one point. I also felt rushed to make decisions quickly. The energy he gave off made me very anxious. Obviously the situation was stressful in itself but having Tom for a mediator made it much more stressful and tense. When discussing custody of my 17 year old son, I said I would not agree to my ex-husband having sole legal custody of our son, even though he was turning 18 in roughly 10 months. Tom argued that it was only 10 months and that it wouldn’t make a difference, though I had specific reasons why I wasn’t willing to do that. He dismissed my concerns like they didn’t matter. He kept pressuring me to agree to my ex having sole legal custody, when he’s a mediator and is suppose to stay middle ground. My attorney can vouch for me and how upset Tom made me. I finally turned toward him and told him I would not be pressured into agreeing to my ex having sole legal custody and I was not willing to come to an agreement in office unless it was joint custody only. In disbelief, I watched him shake his head back and forth in disagreement while he sighed in disgust. I was shocked at his level of unprofessionalism. My attorney knew I was very upset and tried to help calm me when Tom left the room. She understood where I was coming from. For these reasons, I absolutely do not recommend Mr. Stucky for any services that he offers.

Jennifer Young is one of Fort Wayne's most predominant family law attorneys. Her attention to detail, extensive knowlege, and fact finding presentation are just samples of the professionalism she brings in representation.

Mr. Tom Stucky was very unprofessional during mediation. Mr. Stucky pointed out that my son would eventually turn three, as to indicate I wasn't capable of doing basic math. Mr. Stucky also made a snark comment about COVID-19 and visitation concerns. He wasn't helpful and it was a waste of money. Mr. Stucky was rude and inconsiderate.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
