Very happy with Matthew's representation in my reckless driving case. He was quick to understand the situation and explain how our defense would be handled. He was super efficient, pleasant to deal with and was successful in getting the case resolved with a very positive outcome.

If I could give this a 0 I would. He must have family members or neighbors writting these reviews. He is the absolute worst public defender I have EVER encountered. Not meeting until the day of court, sitting out in the waiting room, unprepared, rude, egotistical man has so sense in the world practicing law. If you hire him, be expected to go to jail. Do NOT waste your money. The people in the waiting room was saying the same exact thing about him. Worst lawyer of all time.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I take feedback seriously. I'm very sorry you had a negative experience. Although I fight hard for each and every client that I serve, sometimes the evidence is not in our favor. When my clients don’t win I take it personally and share in that disappointment. I’d be happy to engage in a conversation offline if you’d like to contact me.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
