Hired Law firm 2018-2019Tim Weaver is an outstanding lawyer who handled my mother's estate professionally and expeditiously. Both he and especially his paralegal, Kristi, were not only courteous and sympathetic, but consummately professional. They answered all of my questions and made an extremely difficult and complex process easy and understandable. They explained the entire process and procedures in simple terms that I could understand, and guided me through the entire process, including helping me to find an excellent local Realtor to help me sell my mother's home even though I live out of the area. Kristi and Tim are very caring people and I felt very comfortable with them from the outset. They made the probate administration process easy for me, and had all the answers I needed to get the job done, even when I didn't know the right questions to ask. I would recommend them without reservation. They also helped me with my estate and life planning documents to get my affairs in order and helped me understand the importance of putting in place your estate plan in order so that you can chose who you want to take care of your affairs in case of incapacity (demenia, stroke, accident or injury) as well as having a good will and setting up your estate to avoid the necessity of probate (trusts, payable on death or joint accounts, etc.). I certainly wish my mother had had the benefit of their help before she passed.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
