Rand Nolen - Houston, TX

Rand Nolen joined Fleming & Associates in 1997. He is one of the most active trial lawyers in the firm and has also prosecuted and argued numerous civil appeals. A native Texan, Rand graduated from Houston's Westbury High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. After graduating from college, Rand embarked upon a three and a half year career in risk management, overseeing hundreds of personal injury claims as well as catastrophic loss litigated cases for one of the nation's biggest property and casualty insurers. In 1990, Rand was accepted to South Texas College of Law. While in law school, Rand clerked at the law firm of Tucker, Hendryx and Gascoyne. In 1993, Rand graduated from law school, and was admitted to practice law. Shortly after graduation, Rand was hired by Tucker, Hendryx and Gascoyne as an associate. Over the next four years, Rand successfully tried several cases and argued before the Houston Court of Appeals and the United States Court Of Appeals For the Fifth Circuit.

Since joining Fleming & Associates, Rand has headed up the firm's work in fen-phen diet drug litigation, SUV rollover litigation, and Rezulin diabetes drug litigation. Rand has also litigated toxic tort cases, medical negligence cases and commercial cases. He has litigated civil cases through discovery, pretrial, and settlement in various jurisdictions in the United States, including but not limited to, Mississippi, Kentucky, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Illinois. Rand has tried cases to verdict in both federal and state court in Texas, and has tried cases to verdict in the state courts of Oregon, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Florida. He has argued appeals before the United States Court of Appeals For the Seventh Circuit, the Houston Court of Appeals, the Texarkana Court of Appeals, the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Presently, Rand is in charge of the Fleming & Associates' asbestos docket.

Rand is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Western, Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Fifth and Seventh Circuits; the United States Court Of Federal Claims; and the U.S. Supreme Court. Rand has served as an invited speaker at the Primerus Annual National Conference-NAPA Valley 1998, the American Bar Association-Tort and Insurance Practice Section-San Francisco 2000, the Mealey's Fen-Phen Trial Strategies and Settlements Update-Dallas, Texas, 2003, and the Houston Bar Association 2005 Experts Institute-Houston, Texas, 2005. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas; Houston Bar Association; Houston Trial Lawyers Association; and The Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
