5.0 out of 5 stars

I consulted with Attorney Angel while in the midst of a complex and contentious divorce that involves both personal property and business. I have had two attorneys who have been unable to answer the questions related to this case so that I could move the case toward the finish line. I paid for a 2 hour consultation and it was an extremely worthwhile investment. Attorney Angel has a depth of experience (both as an attorney and former judge) that gives him an extremely well informed legal opinion. In two hours he answered questions for me my previous attorneys have not been able to do, which greatly helped me understand my options. He was patient and kind, but also very clear and direct. I am not opposed to hearing alternative views, but I need the logic explained to me and he was able to do that. He even advised me not to switch attorneys at this point as it would not look good for the court, which I thought was extremely ethical and again made sense. Because there are business interests involved in this case, it is complex and he understood that complexity and was able to give sound advice about next steps. What I found to be refreshing is Attorney Angel and his paralegal Regina Wittkowske listened to me, and worked to understand my situation in order to best help me. This combination of empathy and competence was relieving to me. Regina also provided significant support, and when I did not understand a particular piece of advice from Attorney Angel and needed clarification, she patiently explained it to me until I fully understood the advice. She also helped me with external resources that I needed to help resolve my case. After spending over $30K on other attorneys prior to speaking with this office, I received more solid advice in two hours than I have in almost two years of a grueling process that had me doubting myself. This firm helped me understand my options, and helped provide the right path forward to defend myself. I am extremely grateful for their assistance and support, and would highly recommend them to others in complex situations.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
