Criminal defense has been my passion for the last 28 and a half years. To strive to be the best, you have to be able to take on all types of cases regardless of public perception. Every individual has a right to competent counsel. I have had success at all levels of the spectrum of criminal defense. I was recognized with the assistance of counsel award for representing individuals who couldn't afford an attorney. I have had high profile cases which gained national attention that provided me a guest appearance on the Bill O'Riley show. I've been a legal analyst for the Nashville television stations as well as a guest commentator for the major Nashville newspapers. When people think of me, they think criminal defense. I have the experience to properly represent individuals whether it is a misdemeanor or a serious felony. Your individual situation is important to me and I look forward to showing you how my experience will be a valuable asset to you.

I would like to express my appreciation to Tommy Overton for helping us out with some legal issues. If we didn?t have him to represent our family the verdict would not have worked in our favor. He Get?s the job done and I recommend him to anyone who needs a lawyer. Thanks Mr. Overton

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
