Paula Schaefer is an outstanding family law attorney. Not only is her technical knowledge top-notch, she has the demeanor and temperament needed to be an outstanding family law attorney. I got married in 2023 and two weeks before my wedding my wife and I decided to get a prenup (2nd marriage for us both). We were under the gun to get it completed prior to the wedding. Paula worked with us, fit us into her schedule and was amazing to work with. If you need a family law attorney in Indiana, you cannot do any better than Paula Schaefer, her attorneys, and staff.

had a positive experience with Ruppert & Schaefer from the very beginning. The firm handled my initial phone call with more compassion and helpfulness than other law firms I called. Lauren is an amazing lawyer! I highly recommend her for your family law/divorce needs. She is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, direct, and worked at my speed. I have nothing but good things to say about Lauren and her team. I am so thankful that I found them and hired them.

I was referred to Lainie Hurwitz to help with my ongoing child support battle with my ex-husband. After five years of not receiving the obligated support my ex-husband was to pay and not a lot of luck with my previous attorney, I reached out to Lainie, and within three months, she was able to get me what I need to help financially take care of my children. She did an excellent job representing me and I truly appreciate her and recommend her to anyone who needs assistance with family law.

Family Law Attorney Paula Schaefer is simply AMAZING! READ THIS REVIEW I struggled for 3 years to find a family law attorney who actually listened, treated me like a human being, and cared about the details of my divorce case. I went through 2 attorneys and thousands of wasted dollars before I found Paula. I used to get so frustrated and say "I wish I was rich so I could afford an attorney who actually cared about my case as much as I do" Well I'm not rich, but I found an attorney in Paula, who treated me like I was. Her fees are competitive with the Indianapolis area Marketplace, but you will get so much more from Paula than any other attorney. She is kind, steadfast, honest, professional, cool under pressure, and a classy attorney who will never make you feel like you are unworthy of great legal representation. Paula is also a mom so she knows what you are going through. She has the right combination of experience and compassion and I promise you from experience, that it is rare to find these qualities in an attorney. She returns phone calls, responds to e-mails, Has an incredible legal staff, and prepares thoroughly so you are ABSOLUTELY ready for a hearing if necessary. I can not thank her enough for the way she treated me, the way she valued my input, and the way she cared about my case. So why am I writing this review for Paula Schaefer? Because she has totally restored my faith in attorneys. Paula you are the best and I am so grateful that I found you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
