Despite thinking we had finally found a firm we could forge a relationship with, the end result was a very disappointing waste of time. After consulting with Miss Loftin regarding my tenant/landlord matter, she requested I complete client intake forms and register for an online portal to transfer documents. This seemed to be a new procedure and it didn't go very smoothly, but such is life during COVID-19. After attempting to send files through this free service, it became apparent it had numerous limitations and was basically like a drop box the firm was not paying for there was a 2GB limit, a real problem for video files, etc. We were scheduled to meet via phone conference at a designated time, but it appeared they had forgotten when we attempted to appear. I had to call into their office to inquire and was told Miss Loftin was busy during our scheduled time. A reschedule was set up for the following Monday, only I received a notice over the weekend that they were no longer going to represent us! Upon inquiry, requesting a more detailed explanation, my email was not responded to. Incredibly unprofessional and completely disrespectful! I guess it was good to have that revealed upfront.

Our Firm strives to provide timely representation of clients at all times. For various reasons, whether due to legal conflicts, case load or scheduling conflicts, potential clients are not accepted. We declined representation and promptly notified you of this to allow you the opportunity to find other counsel. Our Firm utilizes various options for obtaining large files from clients and have had no issues using products such as DropBox or similar free and no cost options to you. Our Firm cannot always provide details as to why a case or matter is not accepted due to confidentiality laws. We will not, in an open forum such as this, discuss any specific matters, clients or details.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
