Since his admission to the Louisiana Bar in 1988, J. Douglas Sunseri has practiced in diverse areas of the law. From 1990-1994, J. Douglas Sunseri worked under Attorney J. Since his admission to the Louisiana Bar in 1988, J. Douglas Sunseri has practiced in diverse areas of the law. From 1990-1994, J. Douglas Sunseri worked under Attorney J. William Becknell, the legal counsel for Mr. John Mecom, Jr. and his affiliated companies. Mr. Mecom was the initial owner of the New Orleans Saints and had numerous holdings in oil & gas, hotels, real estate, professional sports and related businesses. As a result, Mr. Sunseri was fully educated in broad areas of law and business, including estate planning probates, successions, interdictions, trusts, family law and community property partitions.
Mr. Sunseri has participated in litigation involving employees, employers, insureds, insurers, and self-insured funds for property/casualty, employers' liability, employment discrimination, and worker's compensation claims. Other areas of practice consist of personal injury, insurance coverage, flood claims, hazard claims, wind-driven rain claims, business interruption, errors and omissions liability for insurance agents/insurance companies. Mr. Sunseri's practice also encompasses commercial litigation, mergers and acquisitions, incorporations, corporate agreements, employment contracts, licensing for intellectual property, leases, real estate, estate planning, family law, divorce and community property, wills, trusts, and successions including probate disputes as well as prosecuting claims of financial exploitation of the elderly. Mr. Sunseri has conducted numerous seminars for trade associations and other professionals in the areas of probate estate planning and trust. Also, Mr. Sunseri provides services for parents with minor and adult children with disabilities including special (supplemental) needs trust and continuing tutorship.
Mr. Sunseri's litigation experience includes jury trials in state and federal court. Mr. Sunseri practices before worker's compensation judges with the Louisiana Department of Labor, administrative law judges and Special Masters assigned by the National Football League. He has directed litigation to the United States Supreme Court in connection with the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). Mr. Sunseri has conducted numerous seminars and professional education for estate planning, special needs trusts, disaster litigation, insured property damage to homes and businesses, employment issues, family law, divorce, community property and worker's compensation. Previously, Mr. Sunseri was named as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana by Louisiana Attorney and served as an expert witness for the Louisiana Attorney General in litigation involving Executive Orders issued by the Governor.
From 1988-1998, Mr. Sunseri served as an Agent for the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) representing over 50 NFL players in various capacities. From 1996-present, Mr. Sunseri was legal counsel for licensing agreements involving the National Football League (NFL), NFLPA, Professional Golf Association (PGA), NCAA, Super Bowl, Sugar Bowl, LSU, Tulane, Ohio State, University of Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M, the New Orleans Saints, Coach Mike Ditka and Coach Tommy Bowden. Also, Mr. Sunseri was legal counsel for obtaining the licensing rights from the NFLPA for a Fantasy Football product as well as licensing counsel for sports apparel companies.
After Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Sunseri made weekly appearances on WDSU-TV Channel 6 newscast as a legal analyst on insurance issues, and construction issues. Mr. Sunseri has prosecuted in excess of 2000 flood and wind claims since Hurricane Katrina. Also, Mr. Sunseri has served as a legal analyst and sports analyst on WWL-TV- Channel 4, WDSU-TV- Channel 6 and WVUE Fox 8. Also, he has testified on behalf of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry on employment and insurance issues in the Louisiana Legislature. Further, Mr. Sunseri made numerous appearances on ESPN, ESPN Radio, Cox Sports Television (CTS), WWL 870 AM, USA Today, NBC and other local media outlets in connection with representing clients in the professional sports industry.
Presently, Mr. Sunseri hosts a weekly radio show "All Things Legal" on WWL 870 A.M. / 105.3 F.M. every Sunday from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. The radio show is in its 13th season. Also, the show is streaming at Radio.com Mr. Sunseri has up to 50,000 listeners each week on his radio show.
