4.5 out of 5 stars

James Capra has been our attorney for almost 4 years. We have found him to be extremely thorough and very easy to work with. He has always been honest and up front with us regarding our case and has yet to show up in the court room less prepared than the other party's attorney. We have received some favorable decisions because of his effort. His fees are reasonable and he does not try to "run up our tab" by doing unnecessary work. He has gotten to know us very well over the years and we are glad to have him as our attorney. His knowledge of family law is outstanding and we would highly recommend him to anyone looking for legal aid.

James listened to my concerns and addressed them. He knows family law and will work hard to get the results you are looking for. I interviewed many attorneys before finding Mr.Capra. He doesn?t ?sugar coat? anything, great attorney, would highly recommend to anyone.

Mr. Capra was very professional and respectful to both myself and the other party involved during the process. He had my best interests in mind and listened to me and respected, right or wrong, the decisions I was making. I would recommend him to anyone in what is a difficult process, he is a calming presence and he makes sure you understand everything through completion.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
