5.0 out of 5 stars

I hired Mr. Polizotto for assistance with elder law planning. It was clear that Mr. Polizzotto was intimately familiar with the nuances of this area of law. He knows how to structure a plan to ensure that the many interests of the client are well represented. He created a plan that included a trust to conserve assets and maximize tax advantages, aid in Medicaid qualification, and ensure favorable transfer of estate assets. Mr. Polizotto did not need to check the law when I had a question; he knew the law. I also hired Mr. Polizotto to assist with Medicaid hearings where the government was seeking to reduce benefits to a family member. We won the decision. In addition, I hired Mr. Polizotto in connection with the sale of a property. His real estate office is a well-oiled, efficient, professional machine. I highly recommend this seasoned lawyer.

There are not enough adjectives or words to describe Mr. Polizzotto at every level of professionalism . He is compassionate and extremely responsive to his clients, listens and explains the matter clearly to his clients with the options to solve the matter. He also goes above and beyond when assisting his clients, e.g. like answering my email on Sunday, Labor Day weekend (which is his day off). I can sit here and write all day about the quality of service he gives his clients. The bottomline is that he has the highest level of professionalism as a lawyer and is just a "nice person" and extremely knowledgeable in many areas of law. He advised me on two matters, immigration and estate planning and guided me in the right direction. I can't thank him enough and will always seek his services in time of need. JC

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
