As you read all the reviews you clearly see a pattern. Most of these reviews were posted in an emotional state. It has been a year since the conclusion of my case. I presented 4 years of evidence in my case. Photo evidence of repeated lice, and flea bites / infestations. I presented 4 years worth of 10 tardies / absences per semester. I paid over $60k to an attorney to create presentation to sway Ms. Woods. She ruled against me and would have done worse had I not recorded EVERY SINGLE conversation with her. She got cocky a couple of times in the conversation. It wasn't until it was revealed that I had the conversations that she even remotely started to act decent. Pass on this guardian, she is a first wave feminist that is an excellent manipulator to the uninitiated. I knew early on that she would not come to my side of the discussion at that point it was all damage control.

Ms. Woods was hired as a GAL for my divorce case. She showed bias towards me and scheduled meetings with my boys behind my back. She recommended to the court that my 13 and 15 year old sons should have different parenting time. Ms. Woods denied recommending my 13 year old spend 70/30 with his father but recommended my 15 year old spend 70/30 with his mother. As a result, my boys are suffering emotionally and their best interest was not a priority.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
