The firm's civil trial practice is challenging and diversified. Representing both plaintiffs and defendants, the firm's lawyers try cases involving negligence and wrongful death, professional malpractice, business and construction disputes, employment law and discrimination, estate litigation, and eminent domain. The firm takes particular pride in its frequent role as "lawyers' lawyers" as the firm has had the honor of representing many of the area's lawyers and law firms who find themselves personally involved in litigation. Matthews, Eastmoore, Hardy, Crauwels & Garcia also takes great pride in representing a variety of governmental clients. Primary among these is the School Board of Sarasota County to which Lamar Matthews has served as general counsel since 1986. The firm has also had the privilege of representing a number of other governmental bodies including Sarasota County, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Department, the Office of the County Attorney, Sarasota County's Administrator, the Sarasota-ManateeAirport Authority, and the City of Gainesville.
Although proud of their accomplishments in the courtroom, the lawyers of Matthews, Eastmoore, Hardy, Crauwels & Garcia recognize that the practice of law involves a public service and trust that does not end at the courthouse door. The firm, therefore, has encouraged its members to take an active role in community and Bar activities. The firm has produced two presidents of The Florida Bar Young Lawyers' Division, four members of that Division's Board of Governors, three presidents of the Sarasota County Bar Association Young Lawyers' Division, a chair of the Florida Bar's General Practice Section, the treasurer of the Judge John M. Scheb American Inn of Court, and several members of the Judicial Nominating Commissions for the Second District Court of Appeal, the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Members of the firm have also served on the Board of Trustees of Manatee Community College, the Sarasota Housing Authority, and the Siesta Key Utility Association as well as numerous charitable organizations.
Since its inception in 1991 as Matthews, Hutton & Eastmoore and continuing today, the lawyers of Matthews, Eastmoore, Hardy, Crauwels & Garcia have protected the legal rights of hundreds of individuals, businesses, and governmental institutions in state and federal courts throughout our state.
