I cannot say enough about this law firm. I brought my mom in to handle her social security after my dad passed away. Mr. Durkee took care of my mother and made her feel relevant and also made sure he had an interpreter from spanish to english. I have since sent a few of my friends and family to Mr. Durkee. Mr. Durkee has handled workers compensation and motor vehicle accident cases for a frend and cousin. He has a caring, compassionate work style. This firm has an easy to find location and handicapp parking which came in handy for us. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

I have been a client at the firm of McGuire and McGuire since 2003. At that time, I came to them with a very difficult and challenging workers' compensation claim. My claim involved the state of Massachusetts, which aggressively defended the claim. My case involved a number of very powerful political people, and prosecuting it required that John McGuire subpoena these individuals, some of whom resisted giving evidence in the case. This created a climate of high tension which posed a very challenging situation not only for myself as the claimant, but I believe for Attorney McGuire as my representative. Throughout the initial process, Attorney McGuire steadfastly moved ahead despite many procedural and evidentiary obstacles. Due to his persistence and expertise, I was able to succeed at the initial stage of my claim. Those initial benefits expired, and that required that Attorney McGuire file yet another claim for permanent and total benefits which also had to be brought before the Department of Industrial Accidents. Again, Mr. McGuire was successful in that effort. Ultimately, due to the strident and persistent opposition to the claim on behalf of the Commonwealth, its lawyers eventually were able to persuade the Department of Industrial Accidents to interrupt my benefits on a technical issue. Mr. McGuire appealed that through hearing at the Department of Industrial Accidents and before the reviewing board of the Department persuading them to vacate the prior decision terminating my benefits and granting me a new hearing. Ultimately, he pursued it to the Appeals Court, changing the law with respect to causation as it will apply to similar cases such as my own in the future. Attorney Paul Durkee of the firm also assisted me in filing a claim for Social Security Disability benefits. I chose to pursue this claim many years after I discontinued working, which posed a very difficult challenge for Attorney Durkee, as we were basically requesting that the Social Security Administration go back almost 14 years and find me disabled. I don't believe any other lawyer facing this challenge would have taken my case. Attorney Durkee, however, did not waver and was ultimately successful obtaining Social Security Disability benefits for me. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts continues to oppose my workers' compensation claim, and the lawyers and staff at McGuire and McGuire continue to represent me with great dedication and skill. I can't thank them enough, to include all of the great support staff there.

From the start of our 1st. meeting Paul Durkee explained everything to me in terms I could easily understand. He was responsive to all my questions and concerns. A steady line of communication was provided from start to finish. Top-Notch! knowledgeable, professional legal representation. Highly Recommend and would hire again!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
