To anyone in need of legal help. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I often find myself in the casinos. One night I stayed much longer than I should have and was driving home at 2:00 am in the morning. Unfortunately for me I was pulled over by a City Cop. While at the casino I had consumed several beers. The cop smelled the beers I had consumed. From there it was all down hill. I unfortunately failed the Intoxilyzer Breath Test (.13% - .14%) and I was immediately placed under arrest for DUI. Simply stated, if I am convicted of DUI, I would lose my job. I hired attorney Wayne Woodall to represent me. At the first court date, with his knowledge of the Intoxilyzer device and the correct practice of giving the test (along with the laws that apply) Mr. Woodall was able to get the breath test evidence thrown out and the Prosecutor could not use this evidence against me. A new court date had to be set so that the Prosecution could amend their charges against me to try to prove "common law DUI" (to prove I was impaired without the test evidence). The Prosecutor was planning on using the results of the Field Sobriety Tests, with evidence of the odor of alcohol, slurred speech, weaving in the roadway, staggering while walking and other similar testimony to try to convince the Judge I was impaired without the breath test evidence. One month later I was back in court just knowing the Judge was going to throw the book at me. As I sat there, I was absolutely a nervous wreck. When Mr. Woodall arrived at Court he met with me in the courtroom and he whispered in my ear to tell me that he had other discrepancies which he had confirmed from the case file and his investigation of the facts, and that he wanted to meet with the Prosecutor before my case proceeded in trial before the Judge. He and the Prosecutor met in the rear offices with the Police Officers nearby. H

"Not only is Wayne Woodall a world class attorney but he represented me with wisdom and compassion. He fought for me as if we were family! When my trial finally arose Mr. Woodall navigated my defense with confidence and experience, putting my worries at ease and obtaining the dismissal I was praying for. I had failed the breath test. I had admitted consuming "6 beers between 6 pm and 8 pm at dinner" (arrest circa 9:22 pm) and I admitted I was speeding. I EVEN ADMITTED IN A WRITTEN STATEMENT THAT I WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL!!! Notwithstanding that statement and others I should not have made, Mr. Woodall worked diligently and steadily to attack the Prosecition in a "Pro-Active Defense" to protect me and save my record with a "NOT GUILTY" verdict on the DUI. My family and my friends told me "Don't waste your money on a Lawyer because you are going to be convicted!" I took the chance. He kept me informed all along about the progress of the case and what to expect. He did not paint a picture of false hope but he did insist that we fight the charge. He reminded that "every person who enters a plea of Guilty is convicted" and "The only way you will have a chance of getting through this without a conviction is to fight at every turn" If you are in Mississippi and need an attorney, I highly recommend that you hire R. W. Woodall!" KZ of New York

Because I am only a light social drinker and have always conducted myself in a responsible manner, I never expected to find myself facing a DUI charge. But, after sharing some "holiday cheer" with friends less than a mile from my home, that is exactly the predicament I faced. Being new to the area and never having to seek counsel for such a situation before, I knew I had a big problem, but had no clue as to what I needed in terms of legal representation. I quickly learned there are major differences in attorneys, the way they conduct their business, and respond to their clients. After hiring, paying, and firing two completely uncommunicative and less-than-confidence-inspiring attorneys, I was fortunate enough to find R. Wayne Woodall. Upon our initial consultation, I knew instantly he was the attorney I had been seeking. His understanding of the nuances of the law and circumstances of his clients is truly remarkable. It was obvious to me that Mr. Woodall was a true expert in his field and loved his chosen career. These are the qualities I admire and seek with any professional. Unlike the two previous lawyers I had suffered, Mr. Woodall and his firm immediately sprang into action while keeping me informed in a very timely manner which greatly reduced my anxiety and stress level. I found his level of open communication and prompt response to my questions and concerns very comforting during the year long process. As for the outcome of the case, I could not have asked for better results. I have no DUI conviction or traffic violation and still maintain my completely pristine driving record. I can say, without any hesitation, this is the firm you want to represent you should you ever find yourself facing such a problem.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
