Welcome to the website of Carole K. Stevens and Nancy B. Amick. We are committed to providing exceptional personalized legal services to our clients. We understand that each client is an individual with unique needs and goals. Our firm offers diligent, responsive and compassionate service in a professional setting. Directness and honesty are the core of our law practice. Throughout the process, we provide our clients with a thorough understanding of the legal system and the choices available to them. We use non adversarial techniques such as negotiation, mediation, and collaborative law whenever feasible to achieve amicable settlements. Nonetheless, we will fight for our clients in court when it is necessary.

We recognize that family law legal proceedings are very emotionally charged. We offer our clients calm, reasoned support at such difficult times. We work to achieve the best possible results for our clients while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. We are known for our preparedness and excellent service to our clients and are well-respected within the Collin County legal community. Together we have over thirty years experience assisting our clients in divorce and family law matters.

We encourage our clients to resolve their divorce and family law disputes outside the courtroom when it is appropriate. Such resolution is less costly, both financially and emotionally.

In a divorce/custody dispute, everyone loses, especially the children. We understand that even when the marital bond is severed, parties who have children together have family ties that last forever.

Our goals are:

  • to give every client compassionate, professional personal attention;
  • to carefully listen to our clients so as to understand their needs and goals;
  • to explain the law;
  • to work with each client to evaluate all options and courses of action;
  • to negotiate a satisfactory resolution wherever possible; and finally
  • to fight for our clients in court if settlement cannot be reached.

We have a diverse range of clients, both men and women. Our lovely office, in a tranquil setting, is conveniently located in Mid-West Plano.

We are strong advocates of collaborative law. Collaborative law is a process in which the parties and their counsel agree in writing to make a good faith attempt to make a mutually agreeable settlement without court intervention or, thus considering everyone's needs and minimizing conflict.

In addition to family law, our firm represents clients seeking to establish a disability before the Social Security Administration. We have represented disabled claimants before the Social Security Administration for over twenty years. We understand our clients' dismay when they are denied disability benefits after having paid into the system for so long. We understand how frustrating dealing with the government can be. We will fight for your benefits.

Thank you for visiting our website. Please contact us for more information or to schedule a consultation.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
