Had another wonderful experience working with Scott W. Kenneally, Esq. from Starkey, Kelly, Kenneally, Cunningham, Turnbach & Yannone law firm. Used them for various legal work including Real Estate as well as business partnership issue(s). This will be the third time I have used this firm and each time they have provided me professional and efficient support and great communication and customer service. What I love best is that they take the time to explain to me what is happening, the process and options available to me. They are fabulous and highly recommended.

This law firm has been representing our family in various matters for over 45 years. Every partner truly cares about their clients and does their utmost to bring every matter to a satisfactory close.

The "review" below was written by one of their staff members, is a self-serving pathetic joke, just like this law firm. DO NOT hire them, they are incompetent and lack even decent legal acumen. They are a bunch of political hacks and never win. I wrote the review about how pathetic they are , their "partners" losing to Pro-Se litigants, and writing briefs for the county that a child could write. Save your money, hire a NYC firm that is intelligent is you care about results, NOT these clowns.

I had a subpoena where they represented the police and they were clowns, had very little knowledge of the law, and got crushed by us. They are staffed by a former very corrupt prosecutor Michael Paulhus, a career criminal masquerading as a "lawyer" and they just recently got crushed by submitting a pathetically poor brief for a "warrantless search" case at the NJ Supreme Court. Hire a NY lawyer if you want results, not these guys. Ocean county doesn't have any intelligent attorneys anyway.

I contacted the firm by phone, after seeing their web page claiming a free consultation, and after one of their attorneys was recommended to me. I told Jean, who answered the phone, that I'd send info about my legal situation, in an email. I contacted the firm by phone and email for over TWO MONTHS, and never heard back. I finally contacted Kenneally, the managing partner, and told him about the lack of response/"free consultation." His only response was, "I'm not going to discuss our office policies with you." Their advertising of free consultation is BS, and they don't even have the basic manners required to be in business.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
