5.0 out of 5 stars

Several years ago Attorney William A Lewis of the Lewis Law Office in Lee' Summit, Missouri prepared a living trust estate plan for my parents. The instructions in the trust allowed the execution of the desired plans and desires of my parents to be completed in a very efficient manner. My wife and I learned valuable information listening to the explanation of the importance of having a trust. Recently we completed our living trust estate plan. Again, Jan and I found the Lewis Law Office to be an outstanding law firm, providing excellent legal information and service, and allowing us to feel a sense of understanding this legal matter without being pressured or persuaded to accept their specific plan. Of noticeable importance to us, was the warm and friendly atmosphere that the whole team provided every time we talked with them. Mary Ann Swisher and Marsha Trayford both provided outstanding service in completing this estate plan. They were very well organized and always had everything correctly prepared and ready to use. There was never a time when we felt a need to rush through any part of the procedure. There was always outstanding service with a comfortable atmosphere. We are happy to be friends and associates with them. Ron and Jan Buske

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
