At Carey and Hamner, P.C., our purpose is to protect the rights of injured people. Insurance companies have attorneys and adjusters trained to protect their interests. When you are injured, you need someone with experience in handling injury claims to even the playing field. The primary focus of our firm is representing the injured.

All accidents are different, and deserve particular attention. When you consult Carey and Hamner, we will spend time not only to find out about your case, but also to answer any questions you have. While we handle hundreds of cases each year, chances are you only have one. We understand this, and will take the time to address your concerns. Our slogan, "Lawyers that Care" is a statement of how we do business. We care about our clients, and will take the time to see that you are treated fairly.

Our policy concerning legal fees is simple. You pay us absolutely nothing until your case is over. In addition, if we accept your case we will advance all of the costs and fees necessary, including fees for expert witnesses. When we recover money for you, we will be paid a reasonable percentage of the total award, plus costs and expenses which we advance on your behalf.

No representation is made that the quality of legal services to be performed is greater that the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
