Giving You A Voice

At Fiedler Law Firm PLC, we believe that a work environment is not the place for continued harassment and discrimination. Hardworking people deserve to be treated with integrity while on the job. While you may have been treated with disrespect in the past, our lawyers will treat you with the dignity you deserve throughout the process of your employment law case.

In Iowa, employment is normally "at will," meaning that your employer has the power to fire you or treat you badly for any reason or no reason. However, poor treatment due to inherent characteristics or employee complaints about illegal conduct should not play a role in employment status. Exceptions exist and include:

Discrimination or harassment based on age, sex, race, color, national origin, disability, pregnancy, sexual orientation or gender identity

Discrimination or harassment based on your association with a spouse, significant other or child of a different race

Retaliation because of a complaint made about illegal discrimination or harassment

Retaliation over you doing something that you are legally obligated or entitled to do

One Person, One Case At A Time

At Fiedler Law Firm PLC, we understand that each of our clients comes to us dealing with different employment situations and unique issues with his or her employer. With that in mind, we provide personalized representation. Our experienced attorneys fight to achieve a measure of justice for you.

However, you must take the first step in contacting our Des Moines employment law firm. Time is of the essence if you are dealing with harassment, discrimination or wrongful termination. Deadlines vary and can be as short as 45 days or as long as five years. You may lose your right to take action in a civil rights complaint or lawsuit if you wait too long.

Take action. Assert your rights.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
