Cannot say enough great things about the skill, knowledge, dedication, and experience of Jeff and his staff! And not just because I had a successful outcome - I was a practicing attorney before becoming disabled and so I know what I'm writing about, and these guys really know their stuff. I truly could not have done this without their help. I wholeheartedly recommend them with no reservations whatsoever!

I read the reviews which lead me to contact the Law Office of Jeffrey S. Lichtman. I was very disappointed with their customer service skills and the way they communicated with me regarding my mother?s SSDI case. I spoke to Max (Spanish speaking paralegal) who constantly interrupted me by saying ?I only want you to answer to the questions I ask you? This is very hard to do since I?m contacting the firm on my mother?s behalf who doesn?t communicated in English. I wanted to provide the firm with her story and the reason she?s considering applying for SSDI benefits. Max transferred my call to speak with Jeffrey (He didn?t even introduce me to the lawyer). I wish I would have never called this firm. Jeffrey was very dry over the phone almost a non-caring attitude. After the call I told him I will not be needing his services.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
