0.5 out of 5 stars

Horrible experience. Called in the office to hire Stevin groth. Some how I was given Steven crossmock which handles mostly civil cases. When I asked if he was Stevie groth he responded, yes I'm steven. Crossmock was completely incompetent to handle my case. Charged me $5,000 same as other top tier law firms in the area. Because i missed a court date from living out of state- one had to be set by my counsel and the day of court I had to text him twice to find out what courthouse I was in. Court was in afternoon. He read my messages and didn?t respond at all. I had to follow up with a phone call 45 minutes before the court appearance and he wasnt on time to court. His Clothes were wrinkled, he had no idea how bond worked, he never received a copy of my bond conditions and upon contacting him he didn?t know them either and said he would get them for me which he never did. After calling him 2 days after the court case to ask questions about the case he did not remember a thing about my case. When expressing my concerns about how he was handling my case I asked if it can transferred to a more seasoned attorney in his firm because I thought I was hiring the law firm like he promised I was when I paid him at our consultation. He then told me that no one else in my office would take my case because he had it and I?ll need to find another law firm. After firing him and recieving a partial refund the check which came from crossmock's own bank not the law firm which leads me to believe I hired him and only him. I was deceived in the whole hiring process and was promised the firm but got no one but this clown. When I came in for consultation with the check he was overly excited and reached across the desk and grabbed the check as fast as he could and signed his own name on it. Upon leaving messages with both the law firm and stevin groth no one would reach back out to me. Complete waste of time and money. I thought I was hiring a 5 star law firm with 300 reviews but got a lawyer I felt worse than a FREE public defender. I know people make mistakes but I was deceived in the whole retaining process. I would stay away from this law firm there are plenty of other firms in the are that are much more professional and costed me the same price as hiring crossmock! He told me he had 30+ years of experience to sell me but his work spoke for itself. I heard from 2 other law firms that he has had trouble in the past with the Ohio national bar association. Do your selves the favor and look for another firm as the owner of this one didn?t care to even call me back. Don't trust their perfecr Google reviews either, I posted same one but magically doesn't appear.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
