5.0 out of 5 stars

About two years ago, my husband and I decided to prepare ourselves for what the future may bring. Years before I had been asked to execute my deceased sister's estate, and that was an eye-opening experience. To make it simpler for our family to cope, come what may, I called Center for Elder Law & Estate Planning - Weymouth, MA for information. What we received in the end was a full assessment of our needs, followed by a comprehensive package with our plans and wishes in order. We are quite satisfied!

John is very experienced and knowlegable in Estate Planning. I went into my estate planning process knowing very, very little of estate planning and was given quite an education from John at our first meeting. John and his staff are quite responsive, polite and friendly; he is the best guide to ensure your ultimate needs are met.

John and Keri helped me and my family when our mother passed away. They did an excellent job with her estate. Thanks

Our family took turns caring for my mother during the last 5 years of her life until her mobility deteriorated to the point where we could no longer care for her at our homes. When it was time for her to go into a nursing home, we needed significant help in trying to navigate the complex Mass Health application process. This is where John Gianino, Keri Guman and the rest of their staff came into our lives. They were able to explain the process clearly and concisely from beginning to end, guiding us along every step of the way as we had to document 5 years worth of income and expenses in order to have our mom approved for Mass Health benefits. They took care of all of the court filings that had to be done in a timely manner at a very reasonable billing rate. We couldn?t believe how complex the application process was and would surely have given up without John?s and Kerry?s support, guidance and legal expertise. Our mother passed away after only 7 months in the nursing home at the age of 89. John was there again to provide his significant legal expertise as we now had to navigate the probate process. Our only regret was that we didn?t know about John?s firm earlier for estate planning purposes. Our family would give Center for Elder Law & Estate Planning our highest recommendation if your family should ever find itself in a similar situation. The Baxter Family

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
