0.5 out of 5 stars

I called to ask about a consultation and the receptionist told me I would have to come in which is 3 hrs from where I live then said, he don't do them over the phone. I was very polite and was trying to tell her they should make that more clearer on there website considering a lot of people do not live in ((Marshletown)) then hung up on me. I tried calling back to ask for her name and she kept talking over me saying ((you just don't give up do you!! I told you we only handle bankruptcy cases!)) which is not true they also handle SSI cases as stated on there website and would not give me her name. I stated I am contacting the BBB and department of civil rights and hung up again, I have severe mental health problems and was just looking for advice. Needless to say a rude Ignorant person like that should not be answering phones for businesses anywhere especially knowing a person with mental health problems could be calling looking for a SSI attorney I was willing to pay good money for a decent service I would of just liked to know what kind of attorney I would be dealing with before driving three hours, Horrible service right from the get go she needs to be fired she is bad for business period.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
