I met Attorney Werner at the lowest point in my life. I came from a good family integrate home in Plainville I went to an all-boys private high school and graduated college. I was ashamed that I had this issue of addiction. When I met him I was at the lowest point in my life and this type of behavior what's on acceptable in my family. But I was lucky enough to have him defend me in court and let me tell you right now he helped me get honest before I walked into the courtroom which was the first step in my many years of sobriety today. I will never forget what he told me, " she want to get better you have to start with honesty first by telling me the truth instead of trying to snowball me on what really happened with your case". My parents raised me to be honest and an upstanding citizen somewhere I took a left where I should have went right but in that brief moment in the holding cell it hit me... I have a lawyer that knows what he's doing and he really cares. The fact that he picked up the phone every time I was in jail, because I wasn't used to going to jail , just to say hi to me everyday, after I was sentenced and he did not need to talk to me, but he did and he stayed on the phone with me to make sure I was okay and never ignored my phone calls. If it was not for him, the judge would not have seen everything I have done to rehabilitate myself and I would never have gotten the deal that I received. Forget the fact that he's an amazing attorney he's also an amazing person and today I'm the business development manager for one of the largest dealerships on the East Coast and I often remember everything he has done for me. No matter how much of a pain I was calling him everyday thank you so much I never made me feel like a burden and that's the type of attorney you need one that's hard hitting and caring

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
