Hired Attorney Thomas G. Maag 2023-2026Three years ago, I had a truck accident not my fault. I gave Mr. Magg $368.00 to start my claim I thought that was strange because in the past I had an accident used a different lawyer and did not pay anything the lawyer took it out of my settlement when the case was won. anyway, I did not hear anything else from Mr. Magg I called several times and did not get the lawyer was told they were not taking any calls, and I have talked to a woman there several times and she acts like she doesn't know what is going on. I gave her the check number and the date it was given to them come to find out no lawsuit was ever filed and now it's too late to get another lawyer and start over, I guess I will have to file a claim against the lawyer in order to get my money back. I am surprised He would do that as he is a likeable person. I also thought it was strange I did not get a receipt but since I gave him a check I felt all right about it.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
