Verified ClientHired Law firm 2017-2021Lou Simonetti and everyone at the firm are great. I had a complicated child custody and support case, that involved Family, Supreme, and Landlord Tenant Court. Two years after my initial petition, I was back in Family Court. Charlotte Betts represented me both times and was outstanding. She is very professional and responsive. Her attention to detail is second to none. I highly recommend her and the entire firm!

Verified ClientHired Law firm 2019-2020I hired Mr. Simonetti to represent me in a difficult divorce case. My ex-wife went out and hired one of the big name firms (my ex is an attorney also). That didn't faze Lou, he went toe-to-toe with them, which ultimately got me custody of my 3 children AND she had to pay my legal fees. He is a true professional, who knows the law and really cared about me and my children. I actually felt like I was his only client. During our consultation he said he was very good at returning phone calls. I've dealt with many lawyers in my business and none are really good at that, so I was skeptical, Until I had an emergency on Christmas morning. I left a voicemail at his office and he called me back within five minutes. His billing was also more than fair! I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs representation.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
