After a tumultuous adoption journey over three years, we were referred to Kelly Dempsey and immediately recognized the superior nature of Kelly and her team. Kelly took a genuine interest in our adoption journey, always made us feel supported through the process, and exhibited a level of knowledge and service that was unmatched by other attorneys and agencies we previously worked with. Our entire experience with Kelly and her team was seamless. Communication was open and easy, we always knew where we were throughout the adoption process, and finalization was handled remotely and without interruption. We are forever grateful for Kelly and we look forward to working with her again when we are ready to further expand our family.

We could not have asked for a better experience! They were professional and very helpful taking the time to answer all our questions. They were quick to return phone calls and emails. They made the process so smooth. You can tell they sincerely care about their mission to help families come together and they know how to do it well.

This law firm is great to work with . They handled our adoption case professionally without any problems. They were there to answer all of our questions with no hesitations. They were always friendly and assured us that everything was going to be okay even when we were in a panic. I really am great full to have worked with such great people. My case went great from beginning to end.

Kelly and Annie are life savers! They stepped up to the plate immediately when we needed to urgently move our adoption to a North Carolina finalization. They on-boarded us as clients quickly and seamlessly and provided us the best adoption advise/consultation and information. Through the many times we called in a panic Kelly and Annie always reassured us that everything would be OK. And it was. They saw us through the whole ICPC process, again with its own set of challenges, but they were there every step of the way to get us approved. Most recently we have finalized our adoption and could not have been happier to be this firm's client.

In the increasingly complex environment of inter-country adoption the Dempsey firm has been a breath of fresh air! We have been working with Nicole Skellenger on Hague re-certification under the new accreditation entity and her calm, positive, organized and thorough approach to the work have made what might otherwise seem like an overwhelming task extremely manageable. Nicole has been extremely responsive to all of our questions and needs and her commitment to the best interests of children shines through in her work. The positive outcomes have just reinforced that we made the right choice in selecting this firm.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
