If you?re considering Kristine P. Romano, Esq., LLM for your Estate planning needs or Legal Support, Advise and A truly Compassionate Assessment of and protection of your Estate Planning and problem solving needs, I would run from this provider as this was our experience recently. My wife & I are an elderly couple and my wife is disabled. Sadly, we were referred to this lawyer by a partnered & well respected financial group who claimed we would be Welcomed, Respected and Valued Customers when we contacted them as Referral Clients like we did. If you can believe what was purportedly sound legal expertise and compassionate advice and guidance as advertised, this was a safe place for an elderly couple to go with specific needs. Instead, however this is how we were treated and disrespected. I called the Northborough Office not less than 6-Times with targeted needs and well worded specific questions asking for a brief telephone return call from the Principal Ms. Romano. Imagine my shock when not a single one of my requests were honored and no return call was offered! Further of concern it that Industry Standard Practice is that a brief Phone call &/or the initial meeting is free-of-charge and once the scope of work is defined, so are the fees. This lawyer however Boldly insists on charging up-front fees before you even know the cost, budget or even if the scope of your needs are within the specialty of this office?s practice! Shocking!! What kind of Law Firm charges a Senior and Disabled couple Up Front fees & Lawyers Fees before you even know if they can or want to help? Surely an ethically question or more? In the end, after speaking with the Northborough office support staff and Ms. Romano?s Admin, No Phone calls or messages were returned and we were told to bring a $400.00 Check for a 1-hour meeting Up front before any of our Questions or plans could be addressed? Is that the kind of Law Practice you want to hire? Is that the kind of Legal services and treatment you expect being a Senior? Below are Advertised and Misrepresented Quotes from This Lawyer?s Site: 1. ?I derive great professional satisfaction from helping people make important decisions and solve problems before they begin? 2. ?Past and current clients, as well as legal professionals who cross paths with me, often say that I am compassionate, sincere and personable? 3. ?At Kristine P. Romano, Esq., LLM, PC, I aim to provide a nurturing, nonjudgmental environment that will help you put the best plans in order that you can while you are able to make your own decisions? 4. ?I am here to support you through the planning process.? 5. ?A Compassionate Elder Law Attorney In Massachusetts? 6. ?While it can be difficult to take the first step, getting in touch with me is easy. I will guide you through every step of the estate planning or elder law processes that will help ease your mind about the future. ? 7. ?My legal peers and past clients say that I am warm, welcoming and sincere.? 8. ?I am attorney Kristine P. Romano and I will be pleased to meet you if you are grappling with legal issues related to elder law. ? 9. ?I Derive Great Professional Satisfaction from helping people make important decisions & solve problems before they begin? None of these could be further from the truth as far as we experienced and as their practices show! Run don?t Walk from this poorly managed and unfocused Law firm!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
