Ms. Shoemake is a rarity when it comes to being a lawyer. She is in it to win, which is not rare for a lawyer, but what is, is her compassion for her clients. I was a complete wreck when I called thinking my life was over. I was sure I would be going to jail. She not only calmed me, but got me a deal that allowed me to continue working without having to tell anyone of my infraction. She not only took the time to get to get all of the facts about my case, but she spent hours getting to know me. She would check up on me and took my calls even at late hours. She never rushed through a conversation even if I repeated the same question or concern over and over. She took her time to research all possibilities for my outcome and explained all information in a way I could understand. I was not just a case number, I was a person. Because of this and her hard work I was presented in the best possible light in court and got a fair deal. Ms. Shoemake is both a hard nose lawyer, but also a compassionate human. This is not a combination one finds in your typical lawyer. I thank my stars for having found her.

Have you ever had a lawyer who genuinely wants to; help her clients, made facts clear and simple, and provided a charge free consoltation? Ms. Shoemaker treated my case with respect, she returned phone calls quickly and put in extra effort to ensure that she had satified any questions had about my case. Impressed by her effort and performance makes her my go to lawyer for traffic related charges!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
