I would highly recommend Jim based on my experience. My case was lengthy, extremely contentious, and ultimately went to trial. Jim went above and beyond to support me throughout the process and represented me well at trial. His extensive legal experience and his unwavering dedication to my case ultimately led to a good outcome for me. I highly recommend Jim.

I would highly recommend Jim Peterson. He was great! He was very supportive and empathetic during one of the most stressful times of my life. He always promptly returned my calls even though I know he had several other cases at the time. His experience and professionalism made all the difference in helping me obtain a more than adequate settlement. I am extremely grateful to have had him as my attorney.

Over the past several years I have recognized how incredibly fortunate I was finding Jim to help me navigate a very unexpected divorce. He was the only attorney who immediately called me back and spent a considerable amount of time listening to my situation before I ever stepped in his door. I needed someone who was not only knowledgeable and highly skilled in the courtroom if needed, but honest, compassionate, and focused on truly understanding my needs. I was married to a physician who created an incredibly contentious situation, trying to wear me down during a painful and emotional process to get exactly what he wanted. Jim was my shield. He helped keep me strong, guiding me, talking through each decision. He was always available, even though I know he was working with many other clients who he was also giving his attention to from early morning to late at night. The divorce was finalized and although no one every gets everything they want, Jim made sure I got the things I wanted most. Jim also stands out in my eyes because of the incredible support and guidance post divorce. I never felt alone after we signed all the papers. Implementing custody arrangements is tricky, and Jim always responded to my questions as I started my new life. Even though it is years later and I am more settled, I feel Jim will always be supportive and helpful if I need to reach out. In talking to others who have been through their own divorces, I know now that type of quality relationship with your attorney is not always the norm. I highly recommend Jim and am very thankful to him and appreciative that he took me in as a client.

When I was looking for a divorce lawyer, I asked my estate lawyer for a recommendation. Jim was highly recommended. He did not disappoint. Jim is very easy to work with and very supportive. He was patient in answering questions and always made me feel comfortable. Jim was my advocate and would go to bat for me. The divorce was final in six months. He did a great job for me. I would confidently recommend him to my friends without hesitation.

Jim was GREAT! Divorce is hard emotionally, financially and psychologically. I am a trial lawyer of 20 years, so I'm sure I made it even harder on Jim and myself, but Jim was patient and empathetic when he needed to be and firm when I needed that. I felt he was prepared to take my case to trial, but willing to resolve it when the time came. That is an important quality for a trial lawyer. Many lawyers would rather settle. Some want a trial. The best know when to do one or the other. Thanks Jim!

Jim has represented me throughout my child support and custody issues. I am a trial lawyer at a national firm and I have over 30 years of courtroom experience. I know a great a lawyer when I see one. Not only is Jim a great trial lawyer, he has been a trusted advisor and zealous advocate for me. When some one asks me for a referral to a family law attorney, I always send them to Jim, and they are always grateful that I did.

I am a litigation attorney and Jim represented me in my divorce, which was extremely contentious. Unfortunately, we were unable to resolve the matter and so the case went to a jury trial. Jim has extensive trial experience and has tried over 100 jury trials. We had made numerous, substantial settlement offers to my husband, all of which he refused. We tried the case and the jury awarded my husband substantially less than any of the offers we made to settle. I know Jim represents many attorneys and high net individuals and I cannot emphasize enough what an excellent job he did. I highly recommend Jim! - L.W. Attorney at Law.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
