I retained Joshua D. Martin as my lawyer, best decision I ever made. New to the area, I didn?t know where to start when I got in trouble. I just googled lawyers in the area. During our initial meeting, which he had on a Sunday evening, being accommodating to me because of my schedule and the urgency of the matter, he was very understanding, personable, honest, listened intently and even gave me necessary pre-work and contacts that I could use to advance the process. This, in turn, supported me with pleading my case. By doing this, it showed to the prosecutor and judge that I was a law abiding citizen that made a mistake and my character was not questioned. During the process, Joshua was timely with his responses to my questions. Even though he had other clients, he always made me feel that my case was paramount, and I never felt like I was just a case file number. He spoke to the prosecutor on my behalf. He was even able to move up my final court date a month, so I was able to get my license reinstated and keep my community service position, which I wanted. His prices were very reasonable and by having my 2 misdemeanor charges knocked down to a non-crime infraction, there were no court or dmv fees or classes. He was able to get my conviction knocked down to significantly lower than he originally thought may happen. I would highly recommend Joshua D. Martin.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
