Anne was fantastic to work with in a challenging situation. She not only provided sound and measured advice, she was integral in reaching a resolution. I would recommend her to anyone.

I have used Anne and her firm on multiple occasions for both financial and child related medications in my cases. Anne is a straight shooter who handles high conflict situations with confidence and is able to obtain results where others would not. Highly recommend!

Terrible experience. My credit card was charged under a different law firm name, when the charge was contested, she sends a nasty email indicating she was dropping the case. Once this is resolved, she completes the work and has the audacity to send a $15 bill for fees incurred by my card provider due to her billing me under a different law firm name. When this nominal fee is contested she refuses to relent citing ?small margins? . In a power play, she refuses to file the final paperwork with the court and walks away. No empathy or understanding of how to work with people.

I was initially suspicious of the firm because it was selected by counsel for the opposing party. I was pleased to find that the description of Anne Schmidt as a "neutral" was indeed apt. She and her staff were very helpful in explaining the QDRO process, providing details on the calculation of marital portions, and treating me with respect and patience when answering some questions multiple times (when you can't fathom the outcome, you have to hear it 5 or 10 times). While I am unlikely to be a repeat customer (unless it is for a pre-nup), I would wholeheartedly recommend Anne Schmidt and her team to fairly coordinate all the aspects of the division of retirement assets in a divorce. Thank you, Anne!

Anne is an excellent resource for retirement benefits, both as a source of information and for preparation of QDROs/QILDROs. She has phenomenal insight and expertise in this field, and it is reflected in her work product which is timely, detailed, and high quality. Anne is a pleasure to to work with, she is responsive, thorough, and always willing to answer questions. I would highly recommend her services

Anne was the perfect lawyer for my case. She was patient and persistent in dealing with some unanticipated complications. One of the best things about Anne is her communication, which makes her great to work with. She was happy to answer questions, consider suggestions, and listen to concerns.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
