Russell is an excellent lawyer. He was upfront and honest with my from the beginning about my case. He assisted me in adopting my nephew, all while I was living in Hawaii. We hired Russ based off a recommendation. Our case special and slightly complex because of the fact that we are active military stationed in Hawaii. We required a Florida lawyer because that's where the guardianship paperwork originated (my parents were the guardian of my nephew). Russ stepped up to the challenge and helped us cut through the red tape and make this adoption happen in a timely manner. He was knowledgeable and answered all my questions and promptly responded to all my emails. His pricing was fair and even gave us a military discount. I couldn't be more happy with my legal representation.

Russ Marlowe and his assistant Jill represented me in a long contested divorce and have also helped me write a will and also a power of attorney. They worked to get me a fair and legal settlement that I was very happy with. Knowing that I had the best legal team working for me helped to quell my fears and anxiety during this long divorce. I consider Russ and Jill friends that I can turn to for legal representation and questions. They are the best!

Mr. Marlowe assisted me with obtaining name changes for my children, and he represented us in our hometown of Pasco County. I have three children who had their father's last name and had not seen their father for about seven years. He assisted me in getting the children's last name changed to my last name, which is what they wanted. He and Jill made the process very simple and explained everything to me, every step of the way. To say I'm satisfied would be an understatement! My children have wanted their names changed for years, and I was so scared to try. I want sure we would get what we desired. Not only did Mr. Marlowe help my children get what they wanted, but he and Jill supported me emotionally as well! They responded to every anxious email and phone call within the same day. I would, absolutely, recommend Mr. Marlowe and will be using him again in my paternity case.

I hired Mr. Marlowe to help me save my daughter from her abusive mother. My daughter's mother was charged with felony child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for giving my daughter illegal street drugs since my daughter was 12 years old. I sent Mr. Marlowe's office an email with the evidence needed to get my daughter home to a safe environment the week before the hearing for my Motion for Temporary Emergency Custody. Mr. Marlowe's office never asked for this evidence, I sent it on my own. Had I not sent this evidence I would have had nothing to show the judge during our hearing. The evidence consisted of a video of my daughter using drugs with her mother, a picture taken by my daughter of my daughter's mother using drugs, attendance records of my daughter missing over 20 days of school while in her mother's care, and text messages between my daughter and her mother with explicit verbiage of drug use. Mr. Marlowe did not use all the evidence I provided. Mr. Marlowe did not subpoena the deputy who took the report which consisted of a full confession from my daughter of the dangerous and intentional drug use. Mr. Marlowe never attempted to reach out to me before the hearing to discuss the court proceedings or how we would approach opposing counsel. I was blindsided by all the questions and the proceedings of the hearing because of Mr. Marlowe's inability to prepare for the hearing. I attended the hearing via teleconference. Mr. Marlowe did not attempt to be present during my hearing while my daughter's mother's counsel was sitting next to her during the proceedings. I have trouble describing how little I felt during the hearing, having retained counsel who obviously could not care less about me, my daughter, or the proceedings. It was shameful how apparent it was that Mr. Marlowe cared so little about the justice system and a courtroom. I attended the hearing from my home while Mr. Marlowe attended the hearing from his vacation home out of state (Mr. Marlowe owns a vacation home out of state which he was operating out of). I am aware of this because I have a family member who is a friend of Mr. Marlowe's who shared this information with me. When I originally hired Mr. Marlowe to represent me and get my daughter home and away from a dangerous and abusive situation, he did not think it prudent to share with me that he lives at his vacation home out of state for roughly eight months out of the year . During our hearing, Mr. Marlowe did not share with the court all of the evidence I had provided to his office. Mr. Marlowe did not share the text messages which consisted of pictures of the drugs, my then 12 year old daughter, and her mother were using together. During the the hearing, Mr. Marlowe rolled over at every objection made by opposing counsel. Mr. Marlowe did nothing to ensure my daughter came home to a safe environment. I was beyond embarrassed at Mr. Marlowe's obvious lack of professionalism and his apparent cavalier attitude toward a child living in an abusive home where she was being given drugs. I wasted over $3,500 on Mr. Marlowe's "services." Do not hire Mr. Marlowe to help you and your family. He is only interested in collecting your money from his vacation home out of state. You are doing yourself and your children a serious disservice by retaining Mr. Marlowe.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
