The Law Office of William Marcus Wilkerson was founded in April of 2012 in order to provide legal services to people across Southeast Texas. When Mr. Wilkerson started his firm, it was truly a solo practice. Today, when there is a full compliment of staff, there are three assistants, including a law clerk or paralegal, and an array of access to research materials and today's technological requirements to see a case through. The staff are knowledgeable, pleasant, and eager to assist in all of your legal needs. Mr. Wilkerson began law school after being awarded a bachelor's degree in social work. He brings that knowledge and mindset to the practice and strives to help his clients through their most difficult times with a direct, but non-judgmental approach to addressing even the most sensitive of situations. While the firm serves clients primarily in Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin counties, Mr. Wilkerson has served clients in Harris, Jasper, Montgomery, Galveston, Chambers, and Dallas counties, plus more. Mr. Wilkerson sees cases through from beginning all the way through trial, and his knowledgeable staff enable him to do so aggressively, competently, and thoroughly.

5.0 out of 5 stars

May 14, 2022 Marcus Wilkerson was hired to represent our loved one in Hardin County for charges of (1) Aggravated Sexual Assault of A Child and (2) Indecency with A Child. This has been the most devastating and traumatic experience of our lives that any of us have ever been through. The absolute shock of the accusations, the charges and then trying to figure out just how to handle this the best way to prove his innocence was very emotional and devastating for all of us. Selecting a lawyer to represent you in a matter of this magnitude is not only life threatening, mandatory for your defense and expensive to defend, but it is also a choice that you only have one chance at, to prove your innocence. Selecting an attorney in charges such as we faced is very scary to say the least. We researched to find the best counsel available that is ethical, understands the judicial system, and one that advocates for the innocent regardless of the magnitude of the charge of crime against them. We chose Marcus Wilkerson, knowing that our loved one could face the rest of his life behind bars, confidently. Throughout the entire process of this case from inception to verdict, Marcus truly showed his tenacity as an educated and experienced attorney in the criminal field and in the defense of his client. Marcus made sure to explain every step of how the process would happen, always answered any questions along the way, and was always truthful as to what the outcome could be of any situation that came forth, positive or negative. He was very supportive to all of us throughout the entire process and kept all of us informed. Marcus was professional in his trial presentation but yet intelligent and experienced enough to know when to take extra steps to defend his client, when necessary. His demonstration in presenting the facts of the defendant?s defense and the discrepancies in the prosecutor?s case were impeccable. He was able to demonstrate the defendant?s defense clearly to the jurors and identify that the prosecutor?s facts were not solid in their case, that information was intentionally omitted to prejudice the defendant wrongfully, and that there was reasonable doubt to the testimony and evidence presented by the prosecuting attorney and their witnesses. Our family would profoundly, without a doubt, recommend Marcus for any criminal matter that you may encounter in your or your loved one?s life. At a time when we were all at our lowest point in life as to what could possibly happen to our loved one, such as life in prison, Marcus was able to keep everyone focused, confident and as peaceful as we could be during the entire process. We found that Marcus truly is in this profession to make a difference for others, to defend others and to advocate for those he represents. His heart was in every component of representing our loved one and the ending verdict was definitely justification of that. If you need a compassionate, intelligent and hardworking advocate working for you or your family in such a time of need, Marcus is definitely an outstanding and absolute choice for you! We sit here today with our loved one, still able to enjoy life because of Marcus and we thank God and him every day for his talents and his compassion in advocating for the innocent. We would recommend Marcus to anyone and will definitely hire him in the future if a need were to arise. Marcus, we cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for our family and appreciate all that you have done and all that you are as an individual.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
