Calderon, with offices in Jamaica, Manhattan and Woodmere has served the greater Metropolitan New York Community for 20 years in the areas of Family related litigation, mediation and appeals. The office offers consultation both in person or remotely by zoom and by phone.
Lewis S. Calderon is a litigator, mediator, and collaborative professional with over 25 years of experience with complex litigation and appeals. For the last nearly 20 years, Mr. Calderon has helped families going through conflict in his role as mediator and as attorney for parents, children, grandparents and foster parents in divorce proceedings, Family Court proceedings and the Appellate Divisions concerning issues of divorce, child custody and visitation, relocation, child neglect and abuse, domestic violence and orders of protection, grandparent visitation, termination of parental rights, paternity and child support. With his vast experience in high conflict Family matters as attorney, mediator and appellate counsel, Mr. Calderon offers a unique combination of compassion and legal acumen that provides his clients with the best chance for a favorable outcome.
Our firm understands that divorce arises out of conflict, but the process and aftermath of divorce need not follow that path. Indeed, our experience has taught that divorce does not necessarily cause harm to children, rather it is conflict between parents that causes harm to children. The firm therefore offers two paths to parties in family conflict, mediation, or collaboration. In each method, the client stays in control of the process, sets the foundation for amicable co-parenting and saves a significant amount of time and money as opposed to traditional adversarial litigation.
Our appellate practice offers a superior level of appellate advocacy through our extensive experience and exceptional legal research and writing. Our firm boasts well over 200 appellate decisions including a significant number of reversals and a multitude of appellate victories.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
