Probate and estate administration involves much more than the simple reading of a will. Founding attorney Mary Kaplan of The Kaplan Firm, in Orlando, Florida, is familiar with the intricacies of the probate and estate administration processes and what goes into ensuring that it goes smoothly. She helps administrators and bereaved loved ones anticipate and prepare for challenges and navigate hurdles they may encounter. Mrs. Kaplan's goal is to make an emotionally trying process less stressful and to ensure that the deceased's property makes it to the right people.

The attorneys at our law offices possess a wealth of knowledge in a broad range of issues, including estate planning, guardianships, elder law, probate litigation, and will and trust creation. We understand that what we do does not just affect single individuals' lives but rather, the lives of their future generations. For this reason, we work with the utmost diligence to gather the information we need to devise the best possible solutions for clients and their families.

We use the free initial consultation to listen to clients' needs and ask the right questions. From there, we meet with clients both in-person and via virtual appointments to build up their estate plans, address changes and concerns, and ensure that their end-of-life documents reflect their most current goals and wishes. Ultimately, we strive to give clients a peace of mind by remaining proactive partners in their estate planning and end-of-life journeys. We happily accept credit card payments.

When she is not assisting individuals through The Kaplan Firm, Mrs. Kaplan enjoys listening to music, reading, cooking and working out. Above all, though, she treasures her time with her husband, Steve, and their two children, Seth and Paige.

Mary Kaplan and her team helped my wife and I establish a new Will and Trust over the summer of 2023. Originally from the UK and with time in Washington State over the last 16 years we needed to understand Florida law and update our existing documents. All of this while reestablishing into our new home in FL. Mary and her team were supportive over many questions, insights, and delays that we had over the summer - stuck with us and were always available online or on a call and took the time to explain process and content and made several updates to our documents along the way as we changed our minds :). Thank you all. Highly recommend Kaplan Law.

When my father passed away in March 2021 in Florida, I needed to find a probate lawyer to handle his estate. I spoke to three probate attorney's prior to connecting with Mary Kaplan and I did not feel comfortable with or better yet, felt connected. When I met Mary Kaplan, I appreciated her welcomed approach and sensitivity, and patience in answering all my questions. I retained her services to handle my dad's estate. The matter was handled accordingly and no hiccups. I recommend the Kaplan Firm. Thank you and your team for a seamless journey.

Mary helped my husband and me revise our revocable trusts. She had good suggestions, responded quickly, and attended to our questions with focused attention. She kindly and generously offered to include our children by Zoom during a meeting so she could review the important decisions and documents with them. I'm grateful we found her and look forward to working with her more in the future.

After looking around for the right estate planning attorney, I found Kaplan Law to be the best fit. Attorney Kaplan has broad knowledge that helped me to craft the right estate plan for my needs as a mid-career professional. Her team was quick to reply and always helpful. I would, and have, recommended others to use Kaplan Law.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
