We help people receive the unemployment insurance benefits they have earned. We work on cases involving overpayments, denial of benefits, and pandemic unemployment assistance.

Rory and Jacob spent their careers in legal aid. They created this law firm because they saw an unmet need. Many people have struggled with unemployment insurance benefits, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. WEBA is the only private practice law firm in Washington State that focuses exclusively on unemployment insurance benefits.

Before creating this firm, Rory served as an Administrative Law Judge hearing unemployment insurance claims. He presided over more than 800 cases and he saw how many people struggled to understand how and when they were eligible for benefits or what arguments they could make to strengthen their case.

WEBA's goal is to help demystify unemployment insurance benefits process and to take on the Employment Security Department when claimants are wrongly denied benefits or required to pay back benefits they rightfully received.

I connected with WEBA through the Washington Unemployment Law Project. Rory was very knowledgable of the intricacies of unemployment law, and super helpful in sorting out the details of how my case would be considered, and preparing me for the hearing. Cannot recommend him and WEBA enough.

My lawyer was excellent in his knowledge about my mental health and the impact my previous employer had on me. He skillfully and patiently worked with me during this process and I struggled to work through the traumatic experiences I had. One thing I did not like, was his law partner who stated openly to me that I did not have a strong case. I have no idea why he would say that given my emotional and mental well being and asking for help. Whoever that person was, they are not experienced enough to work with marginalized communties. But the lawyer who ended up working with me helped me win my case and I highly recommend anyone to work with this firm for those reasons.

WEBA came highly recommended by a former colleague. From the moment I reached out via email, the response was swift, leading to a free consultation with Jacob. His personalized guidance, insightful recommendations, and a communication template provided a significant boost. Following his lead initiated meaningful connections, and I?m optimistic about the outcome. A sincere thank you to Jacob for his time and support?I enthusiastically endorse their services.

From the moment I started working with WEBA I was kept informed of each step in the process, guided on the best approach and supported during the hearing process. My case was heard on a Monday, the ruling in my favor received on Tuesday and the funds transferred to my account on Wednesday of the same week!

Mr. O?Sullivan saved my future from financial disaster. He clearly understood my case and took charge immediately. Very professional and compassionate and led me through a very stressful situation. I could never fought this battle without his expertise. We were able to get a decision in my favor. I will be forever grateful.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
