Attorney Information

Overview

Our Firm’s Founder, Attorney V. Edward Formisano

As one of Rhode Island’s foremost practitioners representing employees in employment law disputes, Attorney Ed Formisano has recovered tens of millions of dollars for his clients. With an unswerving commitment to prompt communication and efficient case management, Ed understands how to work with his clients to get to the heart of their legal matters.

His deep understanding of the contemporary workplace and legal landscape often results in a strategy which explores and exhausts all non-trial options — including arbitration and mediation — to preserve clients’ privacy, avoid risk and minimize distress. However, when needed, Ed aggressively — and successfully — advocates for his clients in court.

In fact, knowing the essential role that employment plays in the daily livelihood of Rhode Island and Massachusetts residents, Ed fiercely protects, preserves and upholds the legal rights of each employee-client.

His expertise includes wage-and-hour disputes, contract and severance negotiation, discrimination and harassment claims, medical leave issues, whistleblower cases, and other employment law matters. Over the years, he has also successfully handled an array of civil rights, medical malpractice and personal injury cases as well as general civil litigation matters.

Ed and his team at Formisano & Company operate in a client-focused manner, fully dedicated to achieving favorable results and sensible resolutions that benefit the best interest of firm clients. The office is centrally located within the landmark Garden City Shopping Center.

Over the years, Ed has been active as a volunteer in a number charitable organizations including Save the Bay and the American Heart Association. He is deeply committed to Junior Achievement of Rhode Island and to St. Mary’s Home for Children, a secular, non-profit agency offering comprehensive treatment programs for boys and girls traumatized by abuse or experiencing the challenges of psychiatric disorders. He also underwrites one student’s tuition to attend his law school alma mater at the University of New Hampshire School of Law.

He frequently appears before the federal district courts of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the US Supreme Court and Rhode Island Supreme, Superior, District, Family, and Workers Compensation Courts.

Your Profile?  Update Now

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
