    Hired Law firm 2025
When I was wrongly summoned to court for a refusal of a chemical test (I passed the field sobriety tests, assessed a fine, and let go), I suddenly panicked. Was I going to lose my license? Would I have to install a device to start my car? I did a quick google search on “refusal of breathalyzer” and Marin, Barrett, and Murphy was the first law firm to pop up. It was after hours so I left a message. I was surprised and delighted a short while later when attorney Stefani Murphy called me back. I explained the circumstances and discussed my driving record with her to see if there were any real concerns. Her calm and professional demeanor immediately put me at ease. Within minutes it seemed like I was talking with an old friend! Stefani was knowledgeable, friendly, and assured me that we had a good case and not to worry. She made it so easy, and her fees were very reasonable. When she had a scheduling conflict, she rescheduled the court date so that she could represent me. She met with me a few days before as I had a few follow-up questions. After meeting Stefani in person, I was even more convinced I had made the right phone call seeking legal counsel. The morning of the court date we met at 9 AM. By 9:03 she had the most serious charges dropped! I retained only the handheld device violation with minor court costs. No loss of license, no blemishes on my record at all! Stefani really came through! Beyond being very competent, she is a joy to talk to. If I have legal problems in the future, I will definitely call Stefani - without hesitation!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
