Overview

Shaun advises clients on a variety of litigation matters including contract disputes, commercial litigation, maritime law, aviation law, and professional negligence. His experience includes trying multiple cases to jury verdicts in Rhode Island Superior Court, arguing before the Rhode Island Supreme Court, and successfully negotiating settlements in contract disputes involving software licenses and other business matters.

Before joining Orson & Brusini, Shaun served as staff counsel to Allstate Insurance Company for almost four years. His role there was to defend Allstate insureds in Rhode Island state courts. Shaun handled numerous arbitrations and mediations that led to successful resolution of claims.

Shaun also spent five years as associate attorney at Olenn & Penza, LLP in Warwick, Rhode Island where he gained experience defending attorneys and medical professionals in malpractice lawsuits. He also aided in the defense of Rhode Island municipalities in litigation under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 in state court and the Federal District Court for the District of Rhode Island.

Shaun represents aircraft owners and pilots as a panel attorney with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Legal Services Plan. Shaun has experience handling enforcement actions and other administrative actions from the Federal Aviation Administration and advises clients on matters related to aircraft purchases and other aviation related transactions.

NOTABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Secured two jury defense verdicts and a favorable finding on comparative negligence in a strict liability case during trials in Rhode Island Superior Court.
  • Successfully defended defense verdict through appeal to the Supreme Court of Rhode Island in Leslie Dominquez et al. v. Wilfredo Rosa Otero, No. 2018-343-App.
  • Attended weeklong trial skills course sponsored by The National Institute for Trial Advocacy in April 2019 and honed skills for opening and closing arguments, direct and cross examination, and examination of expert witnesses.

  • Shaun lives in Narragansett, Rhode Island with his wife Sarah and golden retriever, George Pawshington.
  • Shaun is an FAA licensed pilot and serves as the secretary for a flying club based at Westerly State Airport.
  • He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, Lawyer Pilot’s Bar Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and Sea Sprite Association.
  • Shaun is a lifelong sailor and fisherman with a strong interest in issues related to commercial fisheries. He enjoys offshore fishing on his center console powerboat and sailing his recently restored 1978 Sea Sprite sailboat.
