Blanton was born in Beaufort, South Carolina on September 6, 1974. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (BCE, 1996) and from the University of South Carolina Law School (J.D., 2000).

He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar and United States District Court for South Carolina in 2000. He is a member of the Charleston County, South Carolina and American Bar Associations. Mr. O’Neal is a certified circuit court mediator. He currently serves as a councilman on the South Carolina Bar Environment and Natural Resources Section. Mr. O'Neal is the author and presenter of South Carolina Construction Law: What Do You Do When...?, March 2003 and 2004, The Mold Challenge in South Carolina, May 2004, Pre-trial skills: Thinking on Your Feet, November 26, and Construction Defect Litigation: From A to Z, May 2008 National Business Institute.

Blanton’s areas of practice include construction, insurance law, environmental, civil and commercial litigation, and products liability.
