Hired Law firm 1999Represented my mom in 1999. Bad advice. She should have sought annulment, but he just chose easy money rought for himself. Now she is struggling financially due to his lack of advice. Would not recommend.

Hired Law firm 1985-1987My mom supposedly filed a Will with Mr Poag many years ago, based on his business card. I've been calling for info for 2 MONTHS! Rings once then busy. She has dimentia & doesn't remember. I also need help with elder care legal advice for my uncle. Is his business still open?

Hired Law firm 1996-1997Mr. Jim Poag represented me in my divorce back in1997. I was advised to waiver my rights to any of my husband 401K pension and retirement. On 5/18/2019 he retired from Michelin Tire. I wasn't happy about that now I wish that I would have decided to get my share of his retirement times are hard my children and I are left without nothing that wasn't very good advice lawyers are suppose to represent for the client best interest and for that I am very disappointed.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
