Attorney Information

Overview

Kirsten grew up in Columbus, Ohio and began her undergraduate education at The Ohio State University, where her love of the Buckeyes began. She then moved to South Dakota and graduated from the University of South Dakota with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2002. She graduated with honors from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2005. While in law school she participated on the Trial Team and earned the high grade in multiple classes.

After law school, Kirsten clerked for the First Judicial Circuit in Mitchell, SD for one year before moving to Rapid City where she began her law career with Thomas, Nooney, Braun, Solay, and Bernard practicing mainly in the areas of insurance and business litigation. In 2008 she began working at Bangs McCullen Law Firm focusing her practice on estate planning and probate and trust administration. This focus eventually led to a career change where Kirsten became a Trust Officer and thoroughly enjoyed working for the South Dakota Trust Company.

In 2016, Kirsten and her family moved to Colman, SD where she began working for her family’s company, T&R Electric Supply Co., Inc., as in-house counsel and VP of Compliance. She served on the Executive Committee and learned a lot working in the family business that has over 200 employees and supplies transformers to all fifty states. But in 2025 when the opportunity arose to become Partner with Reiter Law Firm and get back to a legal practice focused on estate and trust litigation, she couldn’t pass it up. She enjoys working with clients on complex legal issues and finding a resolution.

Kirsten is married and has two daughters. She enjoys spending time with her family and their two dogs. She is currently Chair of the Colman-Egan School Board where she is serving her third three-year term. She previously served a three-year term as Bar Commissioner for the South Dakota State Bar Association, and three years on the Young Lawyer’s Board where she also served as President. She is a past President of the West River Estate and Financial Planning Committee, and has volunteered on multiple Boards. She has presented at State Bar CLE’s and NBI seminars on estate planning and trusts.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
