Victor L. Ivy - Jackson, TN

Victor L. Ivy obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee at Martin, TN, and his Master of Science Degree in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, TN. Vic attended law school after working for the United States Department of Agriculture for several years as a loan officer with the Farmers Home Administration in Gibson County and as a 4-H Agriculture Agent in Madison and Cheatham Counties.

He graduated from the Nashville School of Law, where he was the Honor Council President, Am. Jur. Award winner in legal ethics and was named the Outstanding Moot Court Student. Upon graduation, he spent the next few years as a Tennessee Assistant District Attorney for the 24th Judicial District handling jury and bench trials for all types of cases in General Sessions and Circuit Court. He was an advocate for victims of state crimes that suffered physical injuries or financial loss.

In February 1994, Vic became an Assistant United States Attorney in Memphis, where he primarily handled jury trials involving drugs, gun and violent crimes. In 1998, he became a partner with the Jackson, TN law firm of Hardee, Martin, Jaynes and Ivy. There, he concentrated his practice in the areas of criminal law and personal injury jury trials.

In 2001, Vic returned to the United States Attorney’s Office in Jackson, where he was the Chief Prosecutor of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). After obtaining his Top Secret-Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance, Vic was promoted to Chief of the Jackson, TN United States Attorney’s Office. He held the position of top Federal Prosecutor in Jackson until his retirement in 2023 after 34 years of Federal service.

Vic has been the lead attorney on a wide assortment of Federal cases, handling every type of case involving the federal government. This includes complex white-collar crimes such as IRS tax cases, Ponzi schemes, reverse check kiting and frauds of all types. He has handled all types of Federal and State cases as an Assistant District Attorney and Assistant U.S. Attorney. Vic has been appointed as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in Nashville, TN and Paducah, KY. He is licensed in all Tennessee Courts, U.S. District Court Western District and U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. He is an Emeritus Master of the Howell Edmunds Jackson Inn of Court.

Vic has been the lead attorney of record in over 50 state jury trials and presented hundreds of cases to Federal juries. He has authored more than 200 United States Sixth Circuit appellate briefs with 16 published opinions and has signed over 2,000 Federal indictments. He has been the featured speaker at the Tennessee District Attorney’s Conference and Federal Bar seminar. He has received awards from the FBI, DEA, IRS, ATF, Secret Service, Postal Service, Social Security Administration, TBI, Jackson Police Department and many other law enforcement agencies. He has protected the rights of victims for over 30 years in State and Federal courts.

Vic resides in Jackson, TN with his wife, Linda, an architect. They have two children and two grandchildren. His son, Sam, is his law partner at Ivy & Ivy, PLLC. Vic’s daughter, Sara, is a chemical engineer working in Memphis. In his spare time, Vic enjoys all outdoor activities, but primarily farming where he can return to his agricultural roots. Vic has tried to follow the 4-H Club motto he taught to thousands of 4-H Club students years ago – “Always strive to make the best better.”
