Overview
Jennifer McKinnish, Owner/Founding Partner
Jennifer McKinnish began her legal career with a boutique domestic relations firm in Memphis before returning to East Tennessee in 2006. Since returning to East Tennessee, Jennifer has focused on helping her clients through the challenges of divorce and child custody proceedings. Her focus is on complex, high asset divorce cases and child custody cases.
A seasoned litigator with over 20 years of experience, Jennifer expanded her knowledge base to begin service social security clients as well over in the last decade. Her vision for the firm is to be a full service law firm for families across East Tennessee which has led to the firm's expansion to offices throughout East Tennessee with associate attorneys whose expertise in a variety of practice areas permit Jennifer's clients to maintain close ties with her firm as their needs change over the years.
Jennifer and her family reside in the greater Knoxville area where she is the Chairman of the Board at Concord Christian School, a Shareholder Society member at the University of Tennessee and an active parent with the Sugarwood Stingrays. An alumni of the University of Tennessee, Jennifer and her children spend their free time cheering on the Vols, enjoying the mountains of East Tennessee and traveling together to explore different areas of the country when school and courts are on break.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
