Overview
Toby Carpenter joined Trammell, Adkins & Ward, P.C. in July of 2021. He has been a civil litigator in Tennessee for over 25 years, with a primary focus on insurance defense, coverage, and fraud. He has broad experience in many areas of litigation, including personal injury, automobile and truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, uninsured motorist insurance, premises liability, product liability, general negligence, intentional torts, defamation, malicious prosecution, construction, fire and casualty loss claims, insurance coverage, insurance fraud, boundary/easement disputes, trespass, and business contracts. He has tried more than one hundred jury and non-jury cases in the state and federal courts of Tennessee, and he has briefed and argued cases before the Tennessee Court of Appeals and Tennessee Supreme Court. He has also appeared as a presenting speaker and authored materials for continuing legal education programs, on topics ranging from insurance coverage to general civil trial practice.
Mr. Carpenter has represented numerous insurance clients, including Allstate Insurance Company, American National Property and Casualty, Auto Owners Insurance Company, Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company, Consumers Insurance USA, Farmers Mutual of Tennessee, Grange Insurance Company, Motorists Insurance Company, The Pep Boys-Manny, Moe & Jack, Inc., RLI Insurance Company, and State Auto Insurance Company. He has also represented individual and corporate clients in a variety of civil matters.
Mr. Carpenter is a member of the Federal Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Knoxville Bar Association. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and he has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America in the practice area of Litigation, Insurance and Personal Injury, Defendants.
Toby was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee. He lives in Knoxville with his wife, two children, and several rescued border collies. He is a former amateur competitive cyclist, and still enjoys both road and mountain biking, along with hiking, camping, and fishing.
