Overview

Charles Higgins is an experienced trial lawyer and litigator who takes pride in being an advocate for individuals and families who have been hurt through no fault of their own. Over his career, he has fought hard to obtain tens of millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for his clients. Mr. Higgins is licensed to practice law in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas, and he has extensive experience handling personal injury and wrongful death cases involving car and truck accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home abuse and neglect, premises liability and negligent security, civil rights violations, and products liability. Mr. Higgins is dedicated to obtaining excellent results for his clients and guiding them through every step of the litigation process with care and compassion.

Mr. Higgins has been recognized by his peers for his success in the courtroom and leadership in the legal community. He is a graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law Class of 2020 and was named a Fellow of the Memphis Bar Association in 2022. He is currently a Barrister in the Leo Bearman, Sr., Chapter of the American Inns of Court. He has also been named to the Super Lawyers Rising Star list every year since 2016.

Mr. Higgins has won trial verdicts in numerous state and federal courts, including helping to obtain a $3,437,500 jury verdict in federal court in Memphis. Mr. Higgins was successful in helping to preserve the verdict on appeal, which involved filing briefs with the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and both the Tennessee Supreme Court and United States Supreme Court, and resulted in the Sixth Circuit ruling that Tennessee’s cap on punitive damages was unconstitutional.

Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Mr. Higgins first came to the Mid-South as a school teacher and high school basketball coach with Teach for America, living and working in Marianna, Arkansas. Mr. Higgins then attended law school at the University of Minnesota, where he served as a managing editor of the law review, was elected to the Order of the Coif honor society, and graduated magna cum laude. Following law school, Mr. Higgins served a judicial law clerk for then Chief Judge Jon P. McCalla of the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
