Overview
Monica R. Rejaei has lived in the Memphis area for most of her life. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She subsequently attended the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. During law school, Ms. Rejaei served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable James F. Russell of the Circuit Court of Shelby County, Tennessee, whereby she was able to get a birds-eye view of the litigation process, research law, and provide memorandums for Judge Russell. She also was able to attend numerous hearings and trials, which allowed her to better understand the legal courtroom process. During law school, Ms. Rejaei was further active in Moot Court, which allowed her to receive training for courtroom appearances as an attorney. She also served as a staff writer for the University of Memphis Law Review, which honed her research and writing skills.
Ms. Rejaei has been part of the NST team since 2010. Throughout her time with the firm of NST Law, she has handled a wide variety of cases, including automobile accidents, wrongful death, social security disability, and workers’ compensation, which is her main area of practice. Ms. Rejaei knows how devastating work injuries can be to an individual and family, and she has developed a passion for helping these workers with permanent injuries. She now chairs NST’s Workers’ Compensation Practice Group.
Workers’ compensation laws vary considerably from state to state. In July 2014, significant updates to the Tennessee workers’ compensation system went into effect. These updates drastically changed the manner in which a workers’ compensation case is handled, start to finish. Ms. Rejaei is responsible for staying current with the constantly changing workers’ compensation laws, and she regularly advises her team of workers’ compensation attorneys in the firm.
Ms. Rejaei is familiar with navigating the new changes in the workers’ compensation laws, and she will work hard to obtain the initial temporary total disability benefits for her clients, as well as determine the proper medical treatment through the physician selection process. Ms. Rejaei familiarizes herself with each client’s medical condition, and once a client has been released from the doctor at maximum medical improvement, she will utilize her research skills and legal knowledge to help determine the proper impairment rating for permanent partial or permanent total disability in order to resolve each case. She regularly appears in front of the Tennessee Department of Labor, and she handles requests for assistance, mediations, and court approved settlements. However, in situations where settlement cannot be reached, Ms. Rejaei has litigated cases through an administrative structure in the Court of Workers’ Compensation Claims, which is required under the new law.
The workers’ compensation laws allow enhanced benefits based upon age, education, whether an individual returns to work, and the unemployment rate for the county in which the employee was employed on the date of injury. Ms. Rejaei prides herself in getting to know each client on an individual basis, which helps her obtain the maximum compensation for all of her clients.
Ms. Rejaei is admitted to practice law in Tennessee and Mississippi. She is an active member of the Young Lawyers Division of the Memphis Bar Association and Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association. Ms. Rejaei was selected to the 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Super Lawyers Mid-South Rising Stars list, which recognizes lawyers who have received professional achievement through a rigorous peer recognition system. Ms. Rejaei has dedicated herself to making a difference in the lives of injured workers and is zealous and passionate in her representation of them.
